Working as a graphic designer at Paperpress, I created an interactive artwork, Celadon Puzzle for the special exhibition 'Beyond Heritage' at Mokpo Maritime Museum in South Korea.

I developed the concept and graphic design to promote the Goryeo Celadon, elegant pottery pieces which were produced in ancient Korea during the Goryeo Dynasty (918-1392 CE).

Audiences can assemble pieces to decorate the pottery, and this activity offers multi-sensory experience to understand its delicate forms and decorative techniques. The cut-out shaped pieces reimagined Goryeo Celadon’s silhouettes and intricate inlaid ornamentations.

An interactive artwork that allows people to learn about Goryeo Celadon, allowing them experience decorating potteries

Takeaway

The connection between concept and interaction needs to be clear

The biggest challenge in the project was to develop an idea for a form of physical interactive artwork that would be an effective catalyst for conveying the underlying message and achieving the desired goal. Through this project, I learned that attractive interaction can be deceiving when it comes to delivering a meaningful message.
